Aftercare

  • Second Skin

The first application of the second skin can stay on for 12-24 hours.

There will be blood, plasma, and excess ink build up underneath the bandage; that is completely normal.

We recommend removing the second skin in the shower. The hot water and steam can help loosen the bandage and sooth the skin. Slowly work the bandage off from the top, downwards in the direction of hair growth.

Upon removal, gently wash the tattoo of any build up using an unscented/mild soap that is free of artificial scents/colours. Artificial scents/colours may cause irritation to the tattoo.

Do not soak the tattoo or leave it under a running water source; let water run over the tattoo indirectly.

Dry the tattoo with a clean paper towel, and let air dry. Second skin bandages will not adhere to wet/moisturized skin. Avoid using moisturizer at this stage if you would like a second application of second skin.

At this stage you can apply an optional second sheet of second skin and leave it on for anywhere between 2-5 days. The second skin is waterproof and will withstand quick showers.

Though allowing the bandage to stay on for a full 5 days is recommended, if you feel any irritation, discomfort, or develop any kind of reaction to the bandage, please remove it immediately. Though they are made to be hypoallergenic/safe for all skin types, sensitivities may still occur.

Dry the tattoo with a clean paper towel, and let air dry. After about 12 hours or once the skin feels tight/dry, you can start applying moisturizer.

  • Plain Bandage

The bandage can stay on for up to 12 hours, though can be removed after as little as an hour.

Ideal time for removal is before entering a shower after at least an hour of having the bandage applied, so that the tattoo can properly be cleaned of any residual blood, ink, and plasma.

Upon removal, gently wash the tattoo of any build-up using an unscented/mild soap that is free of artificial scents/colours. Artificial scents/colours may lead to irritation.

Do not soak the tattoo or leave it under a running water source; let water run over the tattoo indirectly.

Dry the tattoo with a clean paper towel, and let air dry.

After about 12 hours or once the skin feels tight/dry, you can start applying moisturizer.

Whenever the tattoo feels itchy, scaly, or in any way dry, apply a thin layer of lotion and saturate into the skin. How often you apply depends on your individual needs, though it is important to allow the tattoo to dry out completely before re-applying.

Apply the lotion as needed daily until the tattoo is healed (2-6 weeks).

  • Moisturizing Your Tattoo

Apply an unscented, water-based lotion as needed daily until the tattoo is healed (2-6 weeks).

When choosing a moisturizer you DO NOT want:

    One containing artificial scents/colours

Anything petroleum based (e.g Vaseline, Polysporin) as these can encourage skin infections in fresh tattoos

    Anything oil based

    What you DO want:

A moisturizer free of artificial scents/colours

Water based, mild, and will absorb into the skin

Things to note while the tattoo is still healing:

Avoid direct, prolonged exposure to sunlight (do not apply sunscreen over a fresh tattoo)

Do not submerge/soak the tattoo in any form of water

Avoid workouts that will cause excess sweat for at least the first few days (mild routines should still be fine)
